Kaspersky Lab, a leading manufacturer of anti-malware and unwanted software, hacker attacks and spam, prepared the report Spam in July 2007. The report shows that among the total volume of Runet email traffic in July, the share of spam is 78.7%, which is 4.5% more than in June. This confirms the fact that the amount of spam on the Runet is steadily increasing every summer for the second year already, although analysts at Kaspersky Lab consider this to be just an interesting fact, and not a pattern.
The minimum amount of spam in July was the 10th (74.3%), and the maximum - the 17th (81%). Most users receive spam on the subject of “Medicines; goods and services for health ”(28.2%). The second place is occupied by “Computers and the Internet” (10.4%), followed by “Services on electronic advertising” (8.4%), then “Computer fraud” (7.6%), and last but not least - “Rest and travel "7.2%.
In order to force the user to read the letter, spammers use “hot” world news, placing a link to them in the subject line of the letter, which makes curious users open this spam. For example, on July 7th, spamming began on the subject (or simply at the mention) of the upcoming Olympics in Sochi.
