Publisher John Wiley and Sons sues BitTorrent users

Not for all users, which is already good, but so far only for 27 people who have distributed books from the series “Something is there for dummies” on the Web. By the way, it is the publishing house John Wiley and Sons that publishes books for dummies that are so well recognized. Apparently, the publisher decided to follow in the footsteps of all sorts of media companies filing lawsuits against users distributing content protected by copyright. By the way, in the United States since 2010, more than 200 thousand people have been tried in the United States accused of copyright infringement by using BitTorrent.

Usually, various kinds of media companies were engaged in such cases, including those that produce films of the XXX category. But now publishers have joined the prosecution of users who distribute content through torrents. As mentioned above, now the court is reviewing the cases of 27 BitTorrent users who distributed the series for dummies through this torrent client. If you are interested in the essence of the claim, you can familiarize yourself with the document (English).

The publisher believes that due to the activity of file-sharing fans, the company suffers significant losses. Because of this, according to representatives of the publishing house, it is even possible to dismiss several authors who simply have nothing to pay for (oh, and the right holders like to cite as an example the unfortunate, tattered authors). Interestingly, in this case, the company found it difficult to estimate the exact amount of losses incurred as a result of the illegal activities of those 27 file-sharing fans. But it is estimated that since June 6, 2010, BitTorrent users downloaded the book "Photoshop CS 5 All-In-One FOR DUMMIES" about 74 times only on demonoid.me.

Other books are also mentioned in the lawsuit, including “AutoCAD 2011 for Dummies,” “Day Trading for Dummies,” “Calculus Essential for Dummies,” and “Word Press For Dummies.” Characteristically, the book “BitTorrent for Dummies” for some reason does not appear in the lawsuit. Apparently, it is not so popular among BitTorrent users.

And yes, the requirements of the publisher, too, are not yet completely clear. Whether the publisher will seek to put all the guilty, or whether they will enter into an agreement on compensation for the company's losses, i.e. The parties will go to the world.
