MLUG, the “business in the style of .ru” research and design organization, and the system administrators of several companies organize “regular Linux system administration courses”. Classes will be held at the Higher School of Economics on Saturdays (every 2-3 weeks), in the evening.
The courses are free, but for the assignments you will need some costs (virtual server, domain registration, a processor with virtualization if you do not want to rent a virtual server).
You can participate in the courses in two ways - to go to lectures as a free listener (you just come and listen to the lectures you need, registering for each one separately) or a participant (you will need to attend each lecture and do all the tasks. On the other hand, you can personally communicate with system administrators, enlist their support in their subsequent training and, probably, get recommendations if you go to get a job with our friends).
Interested please under the cat.

Unfortunately, it is impossible for a person to teach system administration. We are not going to do that. But we will try to teach you how to learn (sorry for the pun), create some basis of your knowledge and will constantly demonstrate how to search for the necessary information.
Our main difference from any other courses is that we are not teachers. We really work as system administrators, and do not teach others what we do not do. Therefore, we do not set ourselves tasks for the duration of the course, for the time of a separate lesson, for certificates. Courses will continue exactly as long as we consider that we can teach something on selected topics. Perhaps we will return to the topics already covered. With this we will try to get rid of the main drawback of any formally conducted training sessions on system administration - a strict time frame. In my life, I have several times encountered the fact that very and very much of the course was thrown away as it was conducted simply because there was no time for that.
We have 24 themes in our plans, among them:
- A bit of history and modern reality.
- Network
- Application protocols
- DNS
- Ways to remotely manage the server.
- Linux process management
- Linux resource limits
- Virtualization
- GNU utilities
- Basics of writing bash scripts
- System Packages in Debian GNU / Linux
- File access to Linux systems
- Web servers
- Database servers
- Linux as an office (and not only) gateway
- Backups
- RAID and LVM
- "Hardware component" of the life of system administrators.
Today we invite you to
register as a participant in the course (for all lectures). It goes without saying that we will not be able to take everyone into this group, so there will be some selection. We expect young students who are ready and willing to learn, and most importantly - not yet saturated with the advice of "effective managers." From this group, we expect and participation in our subsequent projects.
If you want to register as a free listener for one of the lectures - follow
our news (
RSS ) - there will definitely appear a link to the registration for the next lecture.
Participants of the course, whose profiles we will select, will be sent an invitation to the newsletter, in which we will be able to discuss topical issues. Free listeners will simply be sent an invitation to a lecture after registration (the principle “who was the first to register is the one who is invited” is valid for them). We will be able to take 50-100 students for each lecture.
As the course is conducted on
the same page, we will publish presentations and, possibly, video recordings for those who cannot attend the lectures in person.
Waiting for you.
