Export to ODT and Recognition of Old Texts Now Online

When in this blog they wrote about the fact that ABBYY FineReader 11 became closer to Linux users, because it can export to ODT, we were laughed a little in the comments. Yes, you were probably right. We understood our mistake and corrected - now you can get from the image a qualitatively recognized file in the ODT format without going over from Linux, even under a virtual machine with Windows. Among the export formats FineReader Online is so loved by many users of free software Open Document Text.


But on adding a new export format, we certainly did not stop. Our blog has repeatedly told about various projects on the digitization of libraries, where we recognized the editions printed with old "Gothic" fonts. The functionality for this has long been present in our “big” products that are being implemented in large organizations. But what do people who need to digitize Gothic texts on a non-industrial scale? Until recently, the answer was one: you have to reprint. And now they can use FineReader Online for this purpose.
For the time being, in our online service we recognize only Gothic texts in two languages ​​- German and Latvian. But, firstly, they constitute more than 90% of all texts typed by these beautiful, but very inconvenient fonts for recognition, and secondly, in the very near future we will add to these two and other European languages.
