Hi, Habr! Today I will tell you how we managed to get more than 137,000 unik in just 10 days.
The idea of "modeling" this project arose after reading the article www.km.ru/node/491789/comments and the "gentle" comments to it.
I instantly recall how many of my entourage asserted that “I would have made elections on the Internet, I would have voted (a), but here we have to go somewhere, stand in useless lines. And then, empty-handed is an occupation, the choice for us has long been made ... " I call my classmate (even at school he had an instant grasp in php), talk about my idea, sit for another 5 minutes discussing the architecture of the project and make a decision about the beginning of work on creating the conceived.

Any product / service begins with the LETTER, the letters form SLOGI, the syllables become the culprit of the title Give Away . First of all, the name was chosen on the basis of frequently used expressions related to the subject of the election, the first thing that then came to mind and surely we would be the winners of the game 100 to 1 - ZAIPROTIV.ru, as expected, the domain was busy. Our version seemed to be no worse and we decided to opt for it. We quickly draw a design, package the resulting image in php / smarty / ajax / jquery / mysql, test it, and now the resource is ready for START.
The historical moment of our site launch has come, and with it a lot of questions about how to attract the target audience to the site. Of course, everyone has heard about how such projects can shoot having spent only a couple of three hours on sowing, but in our case such an approach could only attract 200 visitors per day. We make a decision to allocate 6,000 rubles for the publication of the topic in a well-known blog of my friend.

Analyzing the traffic, we understand that the word of mouth is about 60%, of which 40% comes from a friend’s blog. For the sake of interest, we introduce the word otdamgolos into Google and observe interesting correspondence about our project.

This problem was solved rather quickly, but an unpleasant aftertaste of course remained. During that time, while our server was trying to “bend”, a lot of new sources of traffic appear and I couldn’t realize that such a simple idea could turn into a very interesting success story in a couple of weeks.
Starting the development of our small project, we decided to immediately add the button “to offer our candidate”, because we didn’t want to impose our list at all, it was formed naturally due to the requests of our population.

With all my dislike for ponies, I cannot but admit that the rest of the candidates on the list are simply greedy and power-hungry people and their coming to power will not change the situation in the country much. Another thing - Princess. She is kind, fair and alicorn (winged unicorn), which means she does not need worldly goods, which no doubt will try to grab other personalities.
And, you see, having a magical immortal creature capable of controlling the movement of stars in presidents is very cool and provides ample opportunities for diplomatic pressure on other countries.
Beta-version of our project coped well with the task, except for the main one - to keep the attracted target audience. Realizing that the project has the right to continue to exist, we decided to expand its functionality and today all users have access to the following pages: registration, authorization, creating their own voting, adding candidates to any voting (name, photo), block: New votes, block: rating of active users, block: completed voting.
Such a “short story” about our small but significant project.
