Google for some reason chose StarOffice instead of OpenOffice

In the pack of programs Google Pack completion: it added to the office package StarOffice . Back in 2000, Sun published this software package under a free, open source license, which became the basis for the OpenOffice.org project. The program includes a text editor, spreadsheets, a program for making presentations, a DBMS and a graphical editor.

Free programs from StarOffice can work with most Microsoft Office document formats, and also support export to PDF. Despite the free status of the program, the boxed version of StarOffice is sold in stores for $ 70, but it will be distributed free of charge with the Google Pack. It should be noted at the same time that the distribution package takes more than 140 MB, so that not every user can afford to download it in the "appendages" to Google Search, Google Desktop and other small Google Pack utilities.

Generally speaking, it is interesting why Google decided to include StarOffice, and not OpenOffice, in its suite of programs, because the first one is actually not completely free and includes a number of proprietary components necessary for maximum compatibility with MS Office.
