30 years with QNX: Overcoming the 6 MHz barrier

In the fall of 1984, QNX Software Systems published its first newsletter. Nowadays, headlines announcing support for local area networks and IBM AT sound not very impressive. However, in 1984, these announcements became sensational. In particular, AT computers had just been released to the market, and contained a “boosted” processor with a clock frequency of 6 MHz.

For young readers, the frequency of 6 MHz may seem too slow. It seems that the company IBM also thought, so in the end they released a model with a dizzying clock frequency of 8 MHz.

Despite the antediluvian processor, the QNX RTOS on AT computers was capable of supporting 11 users simultaneously using terminals and modems. Excellent result, what to say.
