The team of animators working on Avatar and Tron + Wemo Media are working on a project for the virtual ocean theBlu
Wemo Media has teamed up with animators working on Avatar and Tron films to work on a new project called theBlu . The idea of the project is to create a volumetric virtual ocean, with all animals, plants and representatives of other kingdoms. In principle, all this can be called "animated Wikipedia". The developers' plans are simply ambitious: theBlu will include not some small part of the ocean, but the entire Pacific Ocean, with all the elements of the oceanic bed, as well as the entire ecosystem.
theBlu is not just an array of information in a graphical display. It is also a social network, as well as a service that helps to get knowledge about the environment. According to the developers, the main goal of the project is to provide an opportunity for everyone to explore the ocean. It will be possible to move around the virtual ocean, exploring the features of the bottom or studying certain types of animals and plants. In order to learn something new about fish swimming by, for example, just click on it, and the necessary information will appear. ')
According to the initiators of the project, now not many people understand what is actually happening in the ocean. And this project can serve as a good educational tool, a service that will help not only to get more information about the ocean, but also how to join the underwater life.
Now there are only 60 species of animals and plants in the project, and in total in the Pacific Ocean, scientists have classified 380 thousand species of living organisms. Before the newly created species is placed in the virtual ocean, the correctness of its description and appearance is carefully checked so that later there are no “pink elephants” in the ocean.
For all users, virtual diving is free, but the project has paid items. For example, you can buy, for example, the fish that you liked the most. The paid money is divided between the creator of the virtual fish and the system itself. In addition, you can buy music, a wide selection of which is available in the project. The creators sell calm tunes that can help a person to relax while he enjoys views of the ocean.
The project itself is based on Unity 3D, and is located in the Amazon EC2 cloud.
