38 billion rubles for copyright infringement
On the website of the General Prosecutor’s Office , information appeared about the referral to the court of the case of the spouses Andrei and Natalia Lopukhov, accused under Part 3 of Art. 146 of the Criminal Code (violation of copyright and related rights).
According to the case file of Lopukhov, from April 2007 to September 2008, by prior agreement with a citizen living in Germany by the name of Sergei, they posted on the sites “interfilm.ru” and “puzkarapuz.ru” the latest news of the film distribution, thereby violating the rights domestic and foreign rightholders, who estimated the cost of the rights to place their products in more than 38 billion rubles.
UPD: 38 billion is the estimated value of the rights to the placement, and not the fact that this amount coincides with the amount of damage that the prosecution is going to recover from the accused. Unfortunately, there is no free access to the case file, so it’s not possible to find out specifically what damage the prosecution requires to recover. Violations of Article 146 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation under Part 3 are punishable by imprisonment for up to six years with a fine of up to five hundred thousand rubles or in the amount of the salary or other income of the convicted person for a period of up to three years or without it.
