iPad 2 is now considered a navigator (+ 5% duty)
The Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation began to re-classify the Apple iPad 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab tablets with a GPS module. If earlier they were in the HS code group of the Customs Union 8471 (computers and their blocks) and were not subject to additional duties, now the customs insisted on the classification of these devices as navigators , and imposed an additional import duty of 5%.
In September, the price of the iPad 2 in retail stores had to be raised by about 4,000 rubles in connection with the growth of the dollar rate, the CEO of diHouse (Apple’s official distributor) told the Kommersant newspaper in an interview.
According to the official classification of the iPad 2 WiFi + 3G (with GPS module) since September, it passes as “radar equipment, radio navigation and remote control radio equipment”. From August, similar customs rules began to apply to tablets, that is, now navigators, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9.
