Wikimedia Foundation Programming Contest

The Wikimedia Foundation announces the start of the programming contest October 2011 Coding Challenge . Wikipedia authors want to find programmers who are close to the values of a world in which everyone has free access to any knowledge. Grand Prix in each task - payment of expenses for some (at the choice of the winner) fund event in 2012. All successful participants will receive a certificate with honors from the fund. For my taste - a much more meaningful event, rather than chasing ants.

The code must be uploaded to Github, Gitorious, or MediaWiki and must be completely free (see rules and FAQ ). It should be completed before November 7, 2011 (I advise those who are inexperienced in time zones to finish everything by November 6). With questions here: codingchallenge@wikimedia.org .

Wikipedia articles are constantly changing, with some articles being updated over a hundred times a day. The reader does not see that everything has changed. I would like Wikipedia articles to become lively, not static. More details.

How to convey millions of photos on Wikipedia to readers not only in the form of low-resolution tags in articles? Make a beautiful, interactive slide show on HTML5 for any Wikipedia article (at least for desktops, running mobile and tablet versions is an additional plus). More details.

Do not like competitive tasks - help with the correction of errors , becoming a Wikimedia hacker .
