Weekend with Windows Phone 7 and not only

The Windows Phone 7 theme has been very popular lately. The new mobile system does not descend from the tops of news publications, Microsoft officially launched the platform in Russia, and various experts give their predictions for the near and not very future.



We are doing more trivial things - we are blogging on Windows Phone 7 and at the same time we are looking for other opportunities for collaboration. For example, we hold a competition Mango applications for Windows Phone 7 with excellent prizes.

Also One of our initiatives is to conduct a hackathon on Windows Phone 7 in Lviv (Western Ukraine). Here I want to share thoughts on how we want to spend it, as well as get feedback from you in terms of thoughts and advice.

Our task: to collect not only enthusiasts of the platform from Microsoft, but also developers for iOS, Android, Symbian, etc., to discuss the mobile trend as a whole, and not limit your horizons to just one platform. For example, one of the reports on Windows Phone 7 will be read by an Android developer, who can compare platforms on practical experience.

Actually, hakaton

The hackathon format is quite simple: 24 hours of non-stop programming, after which the best projects (ideas, prototypes) are determined. The development process itself is free-form, there are no strict rules. At the moment we already have 13 teams, although a month ago we didn’t hope for that amount.

What else?

Hackathon is a good thing, but we also decided to hold a number of other activities within the event.

Immediately, I note that all owners of Windows Phone 7 phones will be able to unlock them for free development (developer unlock).

What will happen:

• At the hackathon will be a representative of Microsoft Ukraine, who will answer all questions related to the development and publication of applications for Ukrainians. In addition, we expect a representative of SofKey - the main publisher of Windows Phone 7 applications for citizens of the CIS, who cannot independently publish applications in the Marketplace due to restrictions;
• those who are not familiar with the Windows Phone 7 platform, we will offer to view a video course from the company Pluralsight, which covers the main points of application development;
• several reports are planned, in particular, on Augmented Reality, work with databases, Metro design, as well as a report on typical errors during development and publication, due to which applications may not be missed in the Marketplace.
• We also plan to record the next release of the Windows Phone 7 podcast .
