New Kindle 8 format with HTML5 support

It seems that Amazon does not want to support the epub in any way, but it continues to improve its own format based on Mobipocket. Recently, the company has published some technical specifications of the Kindle Format 8 (KF8), the eighth generation of the format of electronic books from Amazon, which will replace the Mobi 7.

As was shown at the Kindle Fire presentation, the KF8 format allows you to create colorful and richly composed digital books of any genre: from comic books and children's books to technical documentation and culinary reference books. Compared to Mobi 7, KF8 has added over 150 new formatting elements, including fixed markup, nested tables, callouts, sidebars, SVG graphics, and CSS3 formatting.

Here are sample pages from books in KF8 format. The children's book shows a pop-up text.

The comics feature high-resolution graphics in the Kindle Panel View view, which is made specifically for comics.

In technical documentation it is good to use SVG, CSS3, nested tables and frame text framing with fill.

For cookbooks and other books with an exquisite design, it is possible to embed your fonts, overlay text onto background images, use letters, footnotes and sidebars.

We add that the Kindle book format since last year supports HTML5 audio and video tags, as well as all valid HTML4 tags.

Most likely, the Kindle 3 devices can be upgraded to a new file format, but the previous versions of the Kindle will no longer exist (see FAQ ).
