Static Discharge Printed Circuit Boards from Sanmina-SCI
Sanmina-SCI and Shocking Technologies announced the release of printed circuit boards with built-in protection against electrostatic discharges, which is able to protect all components mounted on the board. The technology developed by Sanmina-SCI is used in the manufacture of Viking VLP DDR2 memory modules. The tests showed that the memory components are quite stable even to 6000-volt discharges. According to the manufacturer, these figures are 200% higher than the previously achieved level of protection.
The basis of the Sanmina-SCI eESD technology is a thin layer of Xstatic material located next to a grounded layer inside a printed circuit board, which is programmed to switch from the state of a pure dielectric to the state of an excellent conductor under the action of high-voltage discharge. After a short dispersion of the discharge into a grounded conductor, the layer returns to its original state — the entire process takes less than one nanosecond.
The use of technology is diverse: increasing the resistance to static discharges of Smart Memory cards, stuffing cell phones, PDAs and other devices is more than relevant. ')
