IP Camera Review GXV3601 HD

IP cameras are a product that recently appeared on the market. His appearance did not change anything in our lives, because we do not know how to use IP cameras. This article will be not just an overview of the product, but a good example of its use in practice. I chose the camera Grandstream GXV3601HD. It has broad functionality and, most importantly, works with the SIP protocol. IP-cameras are most often used for video surveillance and video recording on digital drives or just a PC, but in fact they can do a lot more.

The web interface is divided into 2 parts. What you see above is the monitoring mode interface. The second screen is more interesting - this is an interface with settings.

Practical application

Using GSurf

The software is designed to monitor up to 36 cameras simultaneously. Its main features are camera control, PC recording and PTZ. It is also very convenient using the interface to turn on and off the sound of the camera and speak to the “intruder” if speakers are connected to the camera. For security systems, CCTV for home and garden is just a fairy tale. GSurf is provided free of charge by Grandstream.

Setting up a permanent video on a PC

In GSurf, you need to configure the file storage settings on your PC:
1) Mark what fragments to record video (from 5 to 90 minutes).
2) Set the storage period for files on the screw.
3) Select the screw and the path to the storage folder.
4) Set the checkbox "delete old files if there is no disk space"

Setting up a record on USB, FTP and email

USB drive must be formatted in FAT32, after its installation in the camera slot. In the frontend in Advanced Settings we find Live Storage with information about the device and volume. I put 2 GB for tests. In Motion Detection, we enable motion detection, set up the detector's zone and sensitivity, below choose the action of the camera during an alarm (motion detection):
1) Video recording ± 10 seconds before or after alarm.
2) Call notification to SIP device
3) Sending a screenshot to an e-mail and recording it on the camera's drive (SD or USB)
4) Alarm output to external device (siren on).
5) Record in GSurf

After we set a couple of checkboxes, the camera starts recording video in avi format H264-MPEG-4 AVC codec, resolution 1600 * 1200 FR: 14. The sound also writes.

In order to receive notifications by mail, you need to configure an SMTP server. And if you want to upload video directly to FTP, you need to configure it.
It looks like this:

Video call to SIP-phone in case of alarm.
The camera has a SIP client. In order for him to call another videophone, you need a server. To check this, I made new accounts on Switchvox 2, allowed them to make video calls and connected Yealink VP-2009 videophone.
SIP settings for the camera:

Everything is standard as on any SIP client, but I highlighted in red 2 parameters. The first parameter is the source of the video stream. The fact is that the camera broadcasts simultaneously in 2 streams. And each can be customized for different tasks. In our case, I set up the second stream for SIP, and the first for writing to USB.

It is very important that the resolution on the SIP stream corresponds to the resolution of the videophone display, otherwise you will not see the pictures.

In addition to a video call, the camera can, by accepting the specified password via DTMF, close the circuit and, for example, open the door. In my opinion, this is a very convenient function, because you can, in fact, do any other actions using a regular IP phone.

In the VP-2009 settings, I also specified the video parameters and registered it on Switchvox.

As a result, we get video from the camera on the video phone and sound in the G711

PSIf you need more photos or video examples, I can put it on view.
