Professor Ehud Gazit from the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Tel Aviv University has found a way to reproduce an artificial structure that resembles the nose of a snoop dog in its sensitivity.
For this, he uses nanotubes with a diameter of one thousandth of the diameter of a human hair. He predicted that after a few years, this nanotechnology could be used to create supersensitive sensors that would completely change the existing methods of detecting drugs or explosives. "It will be a kind of artificial dog nose, but a nose that smells explosives for kilometers, not meters," - said the scientist.
