On October 14, 1996, Matthias Ettrich placed a call on Usenet for programmers to participate in the work on the Kool Desktop Environment (KDE), an end-user desktop environment. Infrequently, such projects give rise to something worthwhile - and KDE is just that rare case.
After 15 years, we can safely say that the idea of Matthias was completely successful. In a couple of weeks, Plasma Active One will be released, promoting the ideas of a uniform, modern and free interface on a wide range of devices, from desktops to mobile phones. ')
