Steve Jobs and the drug trafficking policy

It is rather interesting to compare the universal American awe of the merits of Steve Jobs and the draconian policy of the United States regarding drug trafficking, since these are rather contradictory things, from Jobs' obituary in the NY Times :

[Jobs] told the reporter that taking LSD 1 was one of the two or three most important things in his life. He said that some of his personality traits that other people who had not tried psychedelics — even close people like his wife — could never understand.

Unlike many other celebrities who said they were successful against drugs, Jobs said that his success was partly - largely - due to the use of an illegal drug.

Steve Jobs also added that Bill Gates “would have become less blinkered if one day he dropped acid” 2 .

The above quotes have been published for a long time, but they paid little attention in recent biographies of Jobs. This is a significant omission when you consider that he himself recognized this experience as an integral part of life and one of the most important things he has ever done. A surprisingly good article in Time Magazine develops the theme of Jobs and LSD communication. They compare the emotions of admiration and joy experienced by users of Apple products with the typical emotions of people with psychedelic experience. This is not surprising, because both the former head of Apple and other pioneers from the IT industry received inspiration from LSD . Recent studies by scientists show that psychedelics (in particular, psilocybin) actually have a long-lasting effect on a person: for more than a year, a person becomes more open, more curious, more intellectually involved and more creative .

Considering all these facts, the experience of Steve Jobs and many other prominent people, as well as the experience of millions of Americans on the use of light drugs (including the current and past presidents of the United States), the cruel punishment - imprisonment provided by many countries for trafficking in light drugs and psychedelics. Millions of people are thrown into prison for taking these practically harmless drugs, while those who remain at liberty, like Steve Jobs, take them in secret. The policy of the authorities in this sense can be called barbarism.

1 LSD (d-lysergic acid diethylamide) is a semi-synthetic psychoactive substance that does not cause physical dependence. In Russia, it is classified as a drug.

2 Note that in an interview in 1994, Bill Gates did not deny that he also took LSD in his youth, so the thesis of Steve Jobs is no longer valid. However, this was probably partly a joke.
