After Microsoft and Nokia formed a “creative tandem”, it became clear that Windows Phone is the main line of work for Microsoft’s mobile division, which is logical for Nokia as well. Earlier, the Finnish company announced the termination of support and development of its own mobile OS. But now there is some good news for Symbian developers: Symbian applications can soon be ported to Windows Phone.
For some time, a joint team of specialists from Microsoft and Nokia worked on the creation of the appropriate tool. And yesterday, Nokia solemnly
announced that Symbian Qt now supports the Windows Phone API mapping tool. This tool works on the principle of a dictionary, providing communication platform Windows Phone and other mobile OS.
In addition, the Windows Phone API mapping tool allows you to work with other mobile operating systems. For example, using the Windows Phone API mapping tool, you can port applications not only from Symbian, but also from Apple iOS, as well as from Android. Thus, Windows Phone can get a lot of quality applications that were previously inaccessible to users with phones based on this OS.

In order to make it easier for programmers to familiarize themselves with the Mapping Tool, Nokia has released an extensive guide called the Windows Phone Guide for Symbian Qt Application Developers. The manual is available at

It is worth recalling that the first Nokia phone based on Windows Phone will be released at the end of this month, October 26, 2011.
