Fix blurred photos in the new version of Photoshop
At the conference, Adobe MAX 2011, a demonstration of some of the features of the next version of Adobe Photoshop was held. In particular, the function of intellectual correction of blurred video frames and photographs was presented. The filter is based on a new algorithm. It works so clean that this part of the presentation caused a real delight among the public (see 1: 12-1: 25 on video).
The quality of the video does not allow to analyze the work of the new filter in details. But it is clear that after pressing the Analyze button, the processing took 18 seconds. ')
At the HackerNews forum, it was suggested that blind deconvolution (blind reverse convolution) is probably used in this filter — a known method of restoring the original image based on several or one blurred frame. At the first stage, it is necessary to calculate the direction of the image displacement, it can be a curved line of a complex shape. If the camera has an accelerometer, then you can use this data. At the second stage, the convolution is actually carried out on the basis of the received direction.
In the Photoshop presentation video, you can see that on the right side of the screen after the end of the analysis (approximately at 1:08) an image of the “blurring direction” appears.
Blind deconvolution has been used for a long time to increase the sharpness of frames, but the algorithms have improved significantly recently. For example, here is a demonstration of technology developed by researchers from the Pohang University of Science and Technology (South Korea). Their research work was published in the ACM journal in 2009, and the presentation was shown at SIGGRAPH Asia 2009.
