It was both great to test the N9, and sad ... Nokia, after several years of tormenting with a touch, Symbian finally released a mega-cool smartphone on the MeeGo platform, but it was the first and the last — Nokia will never have more devices with this OS. Stephen Elop came to the company and brought Windows Phone 7 along with him. Also an interesting and promising axis, of course, but we are with you for diversity, right?
Sorry for the "slot microSD" in the video. It is not there to speak of, and it meant, of course, a micro USB port.
Design
The N9 case is made of polycarbonate - a material that is very scratch-resistant (for several days in a pocket with keys, and everything is clear - look at the pictures, the Patch Tool was used here only to remove spears). ')
The gadget itself is pleasant to the touch, non-slip in hand, quite weighty, but not too much. In addition to the black model, on the sixth of October, the pink and blue versions should also be on sale.
A little strange is the front camera. It is under the screen, so there is a fear that it will be closed by hand during video calls.
On the bottom of the device - the speaker. Not the loudest. Rather, even too quiet. On the right - three glossy buttons: to turn on and lock, as well as to adjust the volume. Above - audio jack and micro-USB port under the cap. The cap is unusual. It is not picked up with a finger, but pressed down.
The slot for micro SIM cards is also cleverly protected. First you need to move the plug to the side and only then drag it upwards.
Display
The diagonal of the AMOLED screen of the N9 is 3.9 inches, and the resolution is 480x854 pixels. The protective glass protrudes slightly outside the case, so scratches are inevitable. Gorilla Glass in this sense shows worse results than the plastic body.
In terms of brightness and color rendition, the N9 display can be compared with that of the Samsung Galaxy S II: it practically does not go blind in the sun, and the viewing angles are maximum.
Camera
The eight-megapixel camera with dual LED flash, in addition to photos, can shoot video in 720p format at 30 frames per second.
The hardware is able to keep dozens of programs open at the same time, and the gadget does not hang. A gigabyte of RAM, a Cortex A8 processor and PowerVR SGX530 graphics are not the most high-end, but in combination with MeeGo, the iron gives good results.
Soft
The first thing the user sees when turning on the Nokia N9 is the information screen. "Under it" are three independent screens: the application menu, the event menu and the task manager.
The application menu screen displays phone settings, all standard and installed applications and games.
In the task manager - all running applications. Moreover, iron can hold dozens of open programs at the same time and not hang. There is a gigabyte of RAM, a Cortex A8 processor and PowerVR SGX530 graphics.
I can not agree that a lot of things in the MeeGo operating system look like iOS. Fonts for example. But the mechanics of control are completely different, so all the talk about who copied what and from whom is into the furnace!
Competitor
You look at the Nokia N9, and a comparison with the Apple iPhone immediately comes to mind. They are about the same size, their interfaces are similar (although the control mechanics are completely different).
But the iPhone, of course, wins an unconditional victory. And not because it is somewhere faster or steeper in something else, but because it has a developed ecosystem - millions of suitable services and applications.
Summary
If Nokia supported this platform even further, I would have bought the N9 smartphone without hesitation. But the Finns made a bet on Windows Phone, so I would not pay 24 thousand for this device, no matter how interesting. Still, I don’t want the rather expensive gadget to become outdated even before its hardware stuffing becomes irrelevant.
