Kernel.org is back online

After 35 days of shutdown yesterday resumed work of kernel.org and git.kernel.org - the main repository and version control system of the Linux kernel.

Recall that on August 28, a trojan with root access was detected on the servers of kernel.org. Since the infection on August 12, the trojan has modified files related to ssh (openssh, openssh-server and openssh-clients), and the trojan downloader has been added to rc3.d. The chief administrator of kernel.org reported this on August 31, after which the site was shut down for “maintenance” to check the systems and reinstall the servers with the changed, more secure configuration.

Now for developers who want to continue to post repositories on kernel.org, published instructions . All git branches have been deleted, but they will be restored as soon as the appropriate developer obtains rights in the system.

A detailed report on the incident with the Trojan will be published in the future.
