Surf smartphone, sky views and other Xperia Studio projects

It is said that in modern phones there are so many functions that it is unrealistic to use them all. Often it happens, but it is not only a disadvantage - the technical and communication capabilities of smartphones overtake the needs of users, which opens up room for creativity. Half marketing, half-art project Xperia Studio is dedicated to new and original ways to use Xperia phones - in science, art, entertainment. The project is a website that gathers stories of scientists, artists, athletes and musicians, in which Sony Ericsson phones played a role.

Space views

The most interesting of them, in my opinion, is the Invisible Universe app developed by Joshua Peak of Columbia University. Its main advantage is that everyone can use the result of his work - just download the program. Dr. Peak wanted to make available the opportunity for other people to see the beauty of the space around us, and he created an application that demonstrates all the beauty of the sky invisible to the simple eye: in gamma rays, X-rays, optical, infrared and radio frequency.

Unfortunately, just looking through the lens at the world around will not work. The application operates with ready-made huge complete maps of the sky, compiled from data from various types of telescopes - from satellites in Earth orbit to giant radio telescopes in Australia, and collected by astronomers around the world. Turning the phone, you can see how the Universe looks from this point of view in gamma rays, X-rays and so on.

The picture can be “zoomed in”, bringing closer and removing star clusters. True, this does not add much clarity - it will not be possible to find life in the Alpha Centauri system, and it’s hard to understand that someone other than a professional astronomer is unlikely to be in front of him. Nevertheless, it is interesting to play with Invisible Universe, and thanks to the screenshots feature in the latest update of Android 2.3 smartphones, the application can be an excellent source of creative screensavers. Another joint project Xperia studio - this time with the art studio Illutron . The guys from the barge off the coast of Copenhagen staged a three-day Hack-A-Thon, during which they figured out how to manage the presence of several Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY GPS, compass, Wi-Fi, GSM, accelerometers, touchscreen and connectivity them to the Arduino platform. The results of their work - on video:

By the way, in the latest James Bond films, his proprietary mobile gadget was also Sony Ericsson. In "Casino Royale" he, I remember, among other things, was able to analyze a blood sample and calculate the poison, which was poisoned by an agent.

What else?

Now Xperia Studio has four joint projects: read on the website about the Sony Ericsson Xperia neo - the surfer’s assistant, and the music of Paris streets recorded on the Xperia arc. As the authors of the project promise, this is not all. Follow the updates most conveniently via Facebook .
