Hello friends!
Today we want to offer you a new line of virtual servers VDS-KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Mashine) from ColoBridge. We will compare it with the VPS-OpenVZ product group introduced by us at the beginning of 2011, designate the target audience for which the new series is interesting, and share the reasons for choosing this particular virtual machine monitor.
Why KVM
Those who read our
first post may remember that we planned to launch VDS on the XEN virtualization platform in the early spring. But after visiting the CeBIT IT exhibition in the spring and the meetings with the guys from RedHat that followed, we radically changed the strategy and plunged into KVM.
')
The main reason for changing the course was the perspective. KVM as an open source virtualization platform, starting in 2007, has become part of the standard Linux kernel. Thanks to the many thousands community of Linux, the hypervisor has joined the leading virtualization tools. Support for hardware virtualization of the processor (Intel VT, AMD-V), fine tuning of QOS, the presence of containers of their own virtual hardware and the use of unmodified OS disk images bring the virtual KVM-based server closer to the dedicated one. The hypervisor occupies a leading position in the following indicators:
The KVM virtual environment actively supports the
Open Virtualization Alliance , which includes RedHat, IBM, Intel, HP, which most likely guarantees a high development rate for the platform.
KVM vs OpenVZ
VPS (Virtual Private Server) and VDS (Virtual Dedicated Server) are considered to be synonymous terms. But, as follows from the table proposed by us below, KVM is closer to the dedicated server than OpenVZ. Guided by this judgment, we decided to give the rulers the names
VPS-OpenVZ and
VDS-KVM .

Why virtualka and not Dedic?
Of course, no one cancels the dedicated server, and it has the right to exist. Moreover, this fall ColoBridge will launch its own Dedicated line. But we are sure that our virtual servers are much more reliable, more functional and more promising than a budget dedicated server. The main arguments for the above are:
- Value for money. The physical servers we use as platforms for hypervisors are equipped with two power supplies. They, in turn, are connected to a reserved power supply system (Circle A + B). Network cards of the server are simultaneously activated in two independent network rings of various Internet providers. The file system is located on SAS disks compiled in RAID 10 with hot spare. There is a console, access to the BIOS, power management. Dedicated server of a similar configuration is on the market 2-4 times more expensive.
- For developing projects, fast migration and project scalability are important, which is much easier and faster in a virtual environment.
The target audience
From table 1, you can determine the target audience. VDS-KVM will be interesting:
- for any project that requires a deep level of administration (for example, the configuration of the system core);
- for an office environment with corporate software based on the Windows family of businesses for private and medium-sized businesses (for example, 1- Accounting);
- for services requiring VPN;
- for non-Linux solutions.
Test product
As the old proverb says, it’s better to see 1 time than to hear 100 times;) Therefore, anyone who wants to try VDS-KVM or VPS-OpenVZ can order a test account:
Test servers are based on the VPS-OpenVZ Silver and VDS-KVM Silver tariff plans with traffic restrictions. They are provided for a period of 5 days. If you like the server (which we have no doubt), you can upgrade to the tariff plan you are interested in without having to transfer the information.
Stock
Finally, the most delicious :) For habrayuzer we prepared a surprise. For the first 50 to those who wish, we give the starting coupon with a one-time discount of 50% of the monthly price of any virtual server. To get a coupon, just write to us in your personal account which server interests you. If you are reading this ad, but did not get an invite to Habré, please contact us at sales@colobridge.net. In the message, specify what rate you are interested in.
Respectfully,
