Samsung Chromebook 5 3G in the first London offline store

I read that Google had opened an offline Khrombukov store in London.

I went to see the store and Khrombuk.

The “Store” is a two-table stand with a dozen demo laptops in the hall of the huge PC World . Next to the department Apple, Sony, etc. That is, it is not a whole separate store, like Apple, for example.

')

The chromebook that is being demonstrated and sold is the Samsung Series 5 3G .

Below are not very good quality photos of my time acquaintance with this device.

In closed form.

On the left - power, a strange kind of video connector, USB and audio.

On the right is another USB.

Front - SD.

The power connector is generally damp.

Let's see the keyboard.

Above the cipher there is an interesting Search button, which simply opens a new blank bookmark in the browser and sets the cursor in the search bar. In essence, this is CTRL-T. I really liked this button.

In the top row of buttons for the Internet. The one between full-screen mode and brightness is switching between Chrome windows, if there are several of them open.

There are no Ins, Del, Page Up and Page Down buttons.

After switching on after 8 seconds, a login and password invitation from your Google account appears (I used the demo login), and then the main screen appears.

All that is in Chromebook is Chrome browser. You cannot enter / exit it. You can only open new tabs and windows.

Chrome itself differs from the usual desktop version with various additional menus. For example, network settings.

WiFi

Russian language can also be added in the settings.

You can print either by connecting a USB printer (there is a list of supported models), or by the "correct" google method via Cloud Print.

You can store local files in the Chromebook. They can be attached to letters, for example.

In the local storage itself, you can really do something only with files of a certain type, for example, photos or video. You can upload them to WebPicasa.

All downloaded files and screenshots fall into the local storage.

Skype can't be here, so I checked the GTalk (my shaved head in the window).

GTalk settings.

After a little frustration, the GTalk still fell.

Of course I went to the right site .

And one more .

And one more to evaluate performance.

Linux booted in 33 seconds. On my Mac Air Core Due it loads in 8 seconds. But bogomips for some reason are the same - ~ 20.

Now my subjective conclusion.

This music costs 400 pounds (~ 630 dollars), which, as it seems to me, is prohibitively unrealistic price. The laptop itself is extremely simple and is not a super light and thin ultrabook, for which one could tear up such a price.

Nearby were dozens of netbooks of other companies for similar and less money, on which you can do everything the same, plus everything else.

Even in the store, where there was a clear Wi-Fi, it was still stressful to work with full online, as the network brakes here start to irritate very quickly. There is a standard offline GMail, but you really can't work in it.

If the price were 50 pounds - I personally would buy it right there, as I use Google products and am happy to play around with a similar "console from Google", but for 400 pounds I will manage somehow.
