80% of Russians are not ready to abandon pirated content
At the Red Apple Mixx 2011 conference, which took place on September 29 in Moscow, some interesting figures were voiced regarding piracy in Russia and the prospects for the development of legal content.
“More than 80% [of Runet users] are not ready to abandon the consumption of pirated content on the Web, and 58% of users watch pirated content solely because it is free,” said Tatyana Golubovskaya, marketing director for the Now.ru cinema site. According to her, the overwhelming majority of Russians do not even understand that they are breaking the law, and more than 50% cannot even distinguish legal content from pirated content.
A representative of the company ComScore announced the statistics: Russia is in sixth place in the world in the number of online video views. Currently, 85% of Internet users in Russia are watching videos on the web.
