From London to Hong Kong in 176 milliseconds

Another achievement of telecommunications companies that serve the interests of high-frequency traders. BSO Network Solutions has managed to achieve a ping of 176 ms on the backbone from London to Hong Kong - a record result for communication channels between cities, which have two of the world's largest stock exchanges.

Reportedly , previously, arbitrage traders had to use the Trans-Siberian Section channel. It was bypassing some areas of Russia due to the difficulties of laying fiber in those places. The new trunk line uses the Transit Mongolia channel and new sections of “black” optical fiber in Russia and China, due to which a route has turned out that is closer to a straight line. The response time was reduced by more than 20 ms.

As you can understand, the role of Russia is very important in the clashes between high-frequency traders, because the shortest way from Europe to Asia passes through Russia.

On the shortest path on the sphere, the distance between London and Hong Kong is 9618 km.

The managing director of BSO Network Solutions said in an interview with the Financial Times that trading companies have an increasing interest in Moscow as a potentially important hub, which is located between London and Hong Kong.

BSO Network Solutions leases fiber optic from local telecoms. If everything goes according to plan, then soon they plan to double the strip on the territory of Russia.
