Petition for the abolition of software patents in the US

The WhiteHouse.gov website began collecting signatures under an open letter to the administration of the US president regarding the abolition of software patents.

“The initial interpretation by the US Patent Office of software code as a language, therefore, not subject to patenting, is much closer to reality and more conducive to innovation than the current practice of issuing software patents without understanding the essence of these patents,” the open letter said.

“Under the current policy, patents become a means of suppressing innovation and preventing competition, and not at all supporting innovation and competitive markets. They become a weapon that lawyers use large companies against small businesses.

To return prudence to the software industry, please prescribe the patent office to stop issuing software patents and revoke all previously issued software patents .

Signing can citizens of any country, after registering on the site. Unfortunately, the text of the petition contains several logical and grammatical errors that can push a part of the audience from it. The author of the petition says that he can no longer fix anything after publication. This morning, he will call the administration asking for permission to make corrections (this will be the new text after corrections).

In any case, this is better than nothing. If there is a more sensible petition without errors - you can sign it too.
