Spain's anti-monopoly officers launched an investigation into Microsoft

According to representatives of the anti-monopoly committee of Spain, Microsoft has violated Spanish competition laws. A week ago, an investigation was launched against Microsoft in Spain, the essence of which is the assessment of the company's actions to restrict the resale of its own production software licenses. Such actions, according to representatives of the relevant services of Spain, violate two points of the Competition Law in force in this country.

It all started at the very beginning of January this year, when Elegant Business sued Microsoft. This company is the owner of the site where licenses for various software of other companies are resold. Microsoft, according to the Elegant Business management, imposed certain restrictions on the resale of licenses of its software. This contradicts not only the legislation of Spain, but also the legislation of the EU, where it is explicitly stated that the resale of licenses is prescribed in EU legislation in 2001.

And, according to the same law, the ability of copyright holders to impose restrictions on the resale of their own software licenses is severely curtailed. However, in 2010, Microsoft announced that in Spain it was impossible to resell licenses for software giant products without the direct permission of the latter.

In general, this statement was clearly superfluous, because now the court of Spain can impose a fine on Microsoft in the amount of approximately 10% of the corporation's annual revenue. This is a substantial amount even for a giant like Microsoft.
