The popularity of online video and the lack of a business model for earnings

Informationweek once again drew attention to the fact that the growing popularity of services that provide online video (and online TV), so far brings nothing but interest and fun to users. Companies simply do not know how to finally start earning millions on these services. There are no business models, they say, clear and precise. Someone predicts a sharp increase in popularity and profitability already this year, someone foretells the heyday already in a few years.

I personally agree that while the owners of YouTube, etc. they will not have anything from them, but in the future they will remove rather tasty cream as huge profits. I would draw an analogy with Ajax, which only became widespread in recent years, although the technology itself is not something new. Similarly, online video, projects purchased, and the owners are waiting for their time! :) It is clear that not everyone can put out hundreds of millions for a project that will begin to generate profit. It is not known when.
