A scientist from Wales wants his robot to carry the Olympic torch in 2012 games

Every parent wants the best for his child, and it’s not surprising that James Law may ask the Olympic Committee to honor his son with the torch at the 2012 London Olympics. The only problem is that his “son” is an iCub robot, and Low himself is a research fellow at the computer science department at Aberyswyth University in Wales. This child-sized robot is designed to comprehend its surroundings in the way that kids do - look, listen, touch. In this video, you can see Lowe and his colleagues present the iCub of the Associated Press. IKab will have to carry the Olympic torch in deference to Alan Turing, who was born in 1912. And this torch, which the robot will carry, will probably become an important head of interest in artificial intelligence and robotics in the UK and all of Humanity.

ICub at Aberyswyth University is one of several educational institutions throughout Europe as part of an open source robotic project to study cognitive development.

“In 2012, the 100th anniversary of the birth of Alan Turing, the founder of computer science and the man responsible for hacking ciphers during World War II, will be celebrated. The torch-carrying robot will be a tribute to Alan Turing and an inspiration for future generations of scientists and engineers. ”
