Pirate party won 9% of the vote in the elections in Berlin

Pirate Party sets new records. According to preliminary data, at the local elections to the Berlin parliament held yesterday, the so-called “party of geeks” won about 9% of the vote , taking the fifth place among all the political movements in the country.

Now the Pirate Party claims about 15 (!) Parliamentary seats in Berlin, which consists of 130 seats. This result was a surprise for the pirates themselves, who conducted the campaign mainly through the Internet and spent a relatively small budget on it.

The Pirate Party of Germany is in favor of free access to Internet content, free Wi-Fi and free public transport, the discovery of all information on administrative procedures on the Internet. The leader is 33-year-old telecommunications engineer Andreas Baum. The main audience is well-educated men younger than 30 years old, students, IT specialists. One of the slogans is: “Ask your children why you should vote for pirates,” another: “We have questions, you have answers” ​​(hinting at the obviousness of the proposed reform of copyright and other reforms advocated by the political movement).

Note that among the audience Habrahabra Pirate Party could claim to 57.92% of the votes, and every third is ready not only to support, but also to join this party. In general, this political movement, which originated in Scandinavia in the early 2000s, now operates in more than 20 countries around the world, including Russia and Ukraine.
