Malicious spammer received 30 years in prison

The court sentenced Christopher Smith, 27, who is considered one of the worst spammers.

Smith began his illegal activities several years ago. The young man sent out millions of emails advertising pornography, as well as prescription drugs. The cypress-criminal pharmaceutical company Xpress Pharmacy, which was involved in the illegal sale of drugs, yielded multimillion-dollar profits. In total, Smith sold drugs worth $ 24 million. The young man traveled by expensive cars and lived in luxurious apartments.

AOL, Time Warner’s online media division, initiated a lawsuit against Smith, accusing him of illegally sending out advertisements. At the time of the trial, the court ordered the young man to stop trading in drugs and froze the spammer’s bank accounts. However, the cybercriminal, using a fake passport, left the United States, trying to resume an illegal business in the Dominican Republic.

As the Star Tribune now reports, the court made a final decision in the case of Christopher Smith, sentencing the young man to 30 years in prison. The judge explained such a harsh punishment with Smith’s complete disregard of the authorities’s demands and the threats that came from the young man to the witnesses in the case.

By the way, in May of this year another malicious spammer was arrested in the United States - twenty-seven-year-old Robert Alan Soloway. A young man using the network of zombie computers sent out hundreds of thousands of junk messages every day. At the same time, recipients could not exclude their names from mailing lists, whereas the spammer himself earned hundreds of thousands of dollars from advertising.
