32-socket Superdome released

In late August, HP began accepting orders for the maximum 32-socket configuration of its flagship Unix server, the HP Integrity Superdome 2, which was introduced last summer .

Structurally, the 32-socket HP Superdome 2 consists of two eight-bladed chassis installed in one 19-inch rack. The server scales to 128 Itanium 9300 cores and four terabytes of RAM.

Despite the fact that the first generation of HP Integrity Superdome supported up to 64 sockets, due to the transition of Itanium from dual-core to quad-core architecture, the number of cores in the maximum configuration of Superdome 2 remained at the same level, but the flagship of the HP Integrity line became much smaller (the first HP Integrity Superdome in the 64-socket configuration occupied two racks) and significantly increased performance - for example, with load testing in the VTB bank of a new server with HP-UX 11i v3 and Oracle 11g database it showed results per one processor core by 35% the best Than the previous generation of HP Integrity the Superdome, which is now using the bank.

HP Integrity Superdome 2 developers are constantly improving its capabilities. Now the server owners have the opportunity to update its microcode online, which provides an additional reduction in the planned downtime of the HP Integrity Superdome 2. Also, since the summer of this year, the I / O subsystem of the most powerful HP server has improved significantly - now it scales to eight IOX expansion modules. P411 Smart Array 6 Gb / s SAS Controller and Smart Array P812 / 1GB 6Gb 4-port external SAS Controller, QDR Infiniband interface, and CN1100E CNA dual port PCIe interface for connecting to converged networks.

According to IDC, even before the release of the 32-socket configuration in the second quarter of this year, more than twenty HP Integrity Superdome 2 systems were sold in our country. Apparently, HP’s large Russian customers were not embarrassed by Oracle’s threat to stop releasing new versions of its DBMS and other application software for the HP Integrity platform.
