Projity, a company engaged in sales of project management software, is planning to present its Open Source product OpenProj next week at the LinuxWorld conference and exhibition.
According to Projity's executive director, Marc O'Brien, the OpenProj project is intended to be a worthy alternative to the Microsoft Project, which "really opens the way for all open source software."
It is reported that negotiations are already underway with OpenOffice.org on integration with this open office suite, and at the moment OpenProj supports reading files in Microsoft Project format. In addition, O'Brien is hoping for help from the Open Source community to integrate OpenProj with popular CRM (customer relationship management) and ERP (enterprise management) open source systems, as well as to create localizations.
It is not yet known under which license OpenProj will be distributed, except that it will be related to the approved OSI (Open Source Initiative) organization. In addition to the Linux version of OpenProj, packages of this software for Macintosh and Windows are expected.
