Australian scientists warn: laser printers are dangerous for your health
According to a study conducted by Australian scientists from the University of Queensland, laser printers are no less dangerous to health than smoking. And all because of the fine toner particles that are sprayed in the air when the printer is operating in a dangerous concentration. For the tests, researchers chose 62 printers (why 62, and also what brands and models of devices were used, are not indicated), almost 30% of which (17 pieces in total) turned out to be harmful to health. According to scientists, small particles of toner in the air can damage the lungs as much as the toxic tar contained in cigarettes. “Measurements” carried out by researchers also showed that “toner emissions” were intensified when a new cartridge was used or when printing graphics-rich documents.
I don’t know how the sample of 62 printer models is representative, and whether it is possible to draw far-reaching conclusions based on this research, but scientists have already approached the government of the country [Australia] with a proposal to “do something with this health hazard” at the legislative level. Something tells me that the reputation of companies whose products are on the black list may suffer considerably. Especially against the background of an ever-increasing movement for a cleaner environment. Not "green" printers will obviously sell worse. At least in Australia.
