The US government filed a lawsuit with the District Court for the District of Columbia to block AT & T and T-Mobile USA, announced in March. Strangely enough, T-Mobile and AT & T promised earlier that same day that as a result of the deal, 5,000 new jobs would appear in the United States.
The Ministry of Justice believes that the transaction will significantly reduce competition and will result in "higher prices, deterioration in the quality of services, a decrease in choice and a decrease in the number of innovative products."
If the deal eventually falls apart, then it is important to remember that AT & T will then have to pay Deutsche Telekom $ 3 billion.

AT & T said they were surprised and disappointed and would seek an expedited hearing to prove the full benefits of this deal. As they claim, the union will improve wireless services for millions of people, provide 97% of the country's population with mobile broadband and bring billions of additional investments with tens of thousands of jobs.
Sprint also intervened and issued a statement saying that “the Ministry of Justice has put the interests of consumers first and foremost” and “Sprint welcomes the Ministry of Justice with a thorough and attentive check and a fair decision.”
All this does not mean that the transaction will take place or will not take place - it is just another stage of the process - but it certainly does not bode well for the parties. And also for AT & T shares, which have already fallen by 5%.
