Record labels are suing a site that allows you to download videos from YouTube

Who would have thought that a service that allows its users to download videos from YouTube would be attacked by such record labels, the largest companies in their field, such as Universal, EMI, Sony, Warner, etc. (instead of etc. - 25 more different companies). As always, these guys require not only the closure of the “pirated” TubeFire service, but also damages in the amount of $ 3 million.

TubeFire is a fairly well-known project that allows you to convert online YouTube videos into regular music and video files, which you can then listen to and watch on any mobile device. In general, initially this project was conceived as a service for those who are not very fast on the Internet, and who cannot watch videos directly on YouTube. Of course, users quickly realized what a benefit TubeFire represents, and the popularity of the service has increased a hundredfold since its opening. TubeFire has been operating since 2007, and since then thousands and thousands of music and video lovers have become its users.

Naturally, TubeFire is not the only such project. Any kind of "YouTube Downloader" is a huge set. Plus, there is even more desktop software that allows you to download anything from YouTube, including “closed” video, the insertion of which on third-party sites is prohibited.

The lawsuit of the record companies states that from May to June of this year about 10 thousand clips protected by copyright were downloaded from YouTube using TubeFire. The labels estimated their losses at $ 3 million, which is not so much if we compare this amount with the amounts appearing in the claims to ordinary users who downloaded a couple of dozen songs (I remember that some housewife from the USA awarded nearly half a billion in payments dollars fine).

The owner of TubeFire is the Japanese company MusicGate, which has already suspended the service, apologizing to the project users for the inconvenience.

Perhaps the labels want to make an "exemplary whipping", which will be an example for other similar services - this is a likely scenario. But really, there are so many such sites and software that labels are unlikely to achieve any meaningful results.
