Microsoft plans to block sales of some Motorola Android phones

On Monday, Microsoft filed a lawsuit with an international trade commission demanding to block sales of Droid 2, Droid X, Cliq XT, Devour and Back-flip smartphones in the US. Microsoft believes that Motorola infringes seven patents affecting the interface solutions for working with the calendar, contacts, email and so on.

According to David Howard, vice president of Microsoft: “We have a responsibility to our employees, customers, partners and shareholders to protect intellectual property. Motorola violates some of our patents and we are confident that MTC will be on our side. ”

A spokesman for Motorola Mobility, in turn, said that the company will take "vigorous measures to protect" their own business from Microsoft.

MTC promises to complete the investigation of the case by November of this year, and by March 5, 2012 to close the case.

By the way, everyone remembers that Google recently announced its intention to acquire Motorola Mobility for 12.5 billion dollars. This acquisition should strengthen its own patent portfolio and help partners of the search giant in the fight against lawsuits against Android.

From myself I want to note that this lawsuit is hardly motivated by the desire to block sales of specific models, but rather by the desire to influence the deal between Google and Motorola Mobility.
