The Japanese agree on a standard OS for cars

Japanese companies Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Toshiba have begun negotiations on the creation of a standard operating system for managing cars. New development should eliminate the inconsistency in software and interfaces that currently exists. This, in turn, will significantly simplify production and service. Alliance members are planning to release a prototype standard OS by 2009.

As you know, the automotive OS controls all the functional units of a modern car: from the engine, brakes and ignition to the window lifters. If, after the development of standard software, manufacturers switch to the development of standard iron, the cost of cars will fall several times.

It should be noted that a number of European manufacturers, including BMW, Bosch, DaimlerChrysler, Siemens and Volkswagen have already created their own operating system called OSEK.
