Samsung: tablets came up with Stanley Kubrick, not Apple

On Monday evening, Samsung filed a lawsuit to defend Apple’s lawsuit as part of the Apple patent infringement process in the United States. It is too early to make assumptions about Samsung’s security strategy, but some fragments of these documents have already been leaked to the press.

For example, one of the elements of the security strategy is that the idea of tablet computers was invented and appeared in popular culture (prior art) long before the release of the Apple iPad. As proof of this thesis, Samsung presented a frame from the famous Stanley Kubrick film “2001: A Space Odyssey,” which was released in 1968 . This frame is posted on page 2 of the binder documents provided by Samsung to the Northern California District Court.

Samsung also provides a link to Youtube , where you can watch the specified fragment from the movie.

In addition to him, in the court documents there are shots from other famous films and sci-fi TV shows, the characters of which use tablet computers.

Samsung argues that Apple’s patent describes exactly this device design, which is shown in the listed films (rectangular computer, in a thin case, with a flat front and back, in which the display covers almost the entire area). Thus, this patent should be declared invalid and remove all claims against the defendant.
