Mac OS Lion Sleep Issue

Mac os lion

After installing the update, a huge number of users complain about the incorrect reaction of the computer to wake up from sleep mode, and regardless of the type of device, be it an iMac, Macbook or Mac Mini. This manifests itself in this way: after immersing a computer in a dream, it is no longer possible to wake it up in traditional ways: opening the laptop lid, pressing the power button, etc, you have to do a hard reset. The main charm lies in the fact that there are many modifications of this bug: someone only manifests it if you put the computer into sleep mode by closing the lid, someone just by clicking "Sleep mode" in the menu; for someone, it only appears when MagSafe is connected, and for someone only when working on battery power. In my case, it manifests itself in an extremely exotic way: the system wakes up, but it behaves as if it were restarted - all applications are loaded again.

What is interesting, there is no single medicine against it. The support forum offers a huge number of solutions to the problem, but none of them helps everyone and for sure.
This post is an assembly of all possible solutions from here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3190738 .

The most common advice is to reset PRAM and NVRAM.

PRAM (parameter RAM) and NVRAM (non-volatile RAM) are two areas of your Mac's memory, in which some settings and information are stored even after the computer is turned off. But sometimes the data contained there can be damaged and cause all sorts of problems.

You can reset the contents of PRAM and NVRAM in five consecutive steps:

1) Turn off the computer.
2) Find the Command, Option, P and R keys on the keyboard (you will need these keys in the following steps).
3) Turn on the computer.
4) Simultaneously press and hold Command + Option + P + R, but note that this must be done before the gray screen appears.
5) After a few seconds, your Mac will reboot again, a familiar sound will sound (startup sound), and you can release the pressed keys.

Reset SMC Parameters

In the worst case, in addition to the "faulty" sleep mode, you can notice other symptoms indicating the need to reset the parameters of the system management controller (System Management Controller or, briefly, SMC). Everywhere it is recommended to resort to this only in the most recent case, when all other methods have already been tried, although there is nothing terrible in this - this controller controls various kinds of sensors, and does not contain any settings. Reset does not affect the system settings.

Resetting SMC parameters on laptops with a removable battery is done like this (by “removable” battery is meant one that the user can replace himself, without the help of a screwdriver, only by opening the lid and removing the battery):

1) Turn off the computer.
2) Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter (if connected).
3) Take the battery out of the laptop case and set it aside.
4) Press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds.
5) Release the power button, insert the battery back into the laptop and plug in the MagSafe adapter.
6) Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

Resetting SMC settings on laptops without a removable battery is done like this:

1) Turn off the computer.
2) Connect one end of the MagSafe adapter to the outlet, and the other to the laptop.
3) Simultaneously press Shift + Control + Option (on the left side of the keyboard) and the Power button (while the LED on the MagSafe adapter can change state and even turn off temporarily).
4) Release all keys at the same time.
5) Press the Power button again to turn on the computer.

Resetting SMC settings on Mac desktop computers is done as follows:

Turn off the computer and unplug the power cord.
Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the Mac.
Wait another 5 seconds and then press the Power button to turn on the computer.

Searching for a sleep-in process

run in terminal: pmset -g
opposite sleep, see the pid process, after the phrase "imposed by". For example, for:

sleep 0 (imposed by 18)

run ps -ef | grep -e 18

Some more tips:

- Refresh Little Snitch
- Close / remove iStat
- Delete the contents of the directory / Library / Preferences / SystemConfiguration, empty the trash, reboot
- Close Mail (when running on some hard drive just does not go to sleep
- Disable Internet Sharing (System Settings -> Sharing -> Uncheck the checkbox "Shared Internet" (some recommend to uncheck all checkboxes).

Only one method helped me, and then it only lasted for 1 time:

1) Disable MagSafe
2) Close the laptop lid
3) Wait until the laptop falls asleep (the disk activity indicator does not flash)
4) Turn MagSafe back
5) Wake up laptop
