Wikimedia foundation launched a referendum on the mechanism for hiding images.
The referendum will last until August 30.
The purpose of this referendum is to collect proposals for the development and use of the mechanism of personal optional image hiding, which should allow readers to arbitrarily hide the contents of certain types of images viewed from under their account.
The purpose of the mechanism being introduced is to give readers the ability to hide images on Wikimedia projects that they found undesirable to see. Hiding can be done either during the first viewing of the image, or in advance, by selecting the appropriate personal account settings. It is assumed that this mechanism should give readers more freedom of choice, so it is important that it is as simple as possible and has a user-friendly interface. Wikimedia will also try to keep the mechanism as simple as possible for editors to support. Several basic principles were formulated for the development of the mechanism, but in the process of development, situations that require compromise solutions are inevitable. Wikimedia asks, through participation in this referendum, to help developers make such decisions in the future.
