Codecademy. Learning to program

Codecademy , which started just a day ago, will be of interest primarily to novice JavaScript programmers. The resource claims to be an excellent addition to tutorials, mana and other materials. Under the cut a small review of the service.

Interestingly enough, the registration for the Codecademy is footed . As soon as you enter the site, you will immediately be offered the first lesson, then another one ... but after a while a message will appear that if you do not register, all the progress will be lost. I think many will do it. At least, even in order to survive.

The learning process is also fairly well organized. The sidebar on the left side of the screen will instruct you on what needs to be done to complete the next task. For example, how to create a new variable “MyName”. You write and edit the code directly in the browser, click done, and your code will be executed. The resource is well balanced between “do it specifically” and “remember that we went through the last exercise.” It turns out and not difficult and not boring.

Not without a social component. As you progress through the lessons, you will earn points and achievements that will be displayed in your profile. Friends will be able to see your progress. I think all sorts of contests and additional features for top coders are just around the corner.

Bugs are present. The founders of the company Zach Sims and Ryan Bubinski say they started working on the application just a week and a half ago and admit that they were not ready for such rapid popularity (after posting on Hacker News, they received 1,000 users online in 4 hours).

Founders have not yet come up with monetization. The service is still free, so welcome.
