HTC launched a service to unlock the bootloader in Sensation
HTC introduced a service to unlock the bootloader in their smartphones. Now the tool can be used for Sensation, and soon promised support for EVO 3D on Sprint and for Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA.
The unlock site , full of strict warnings, tells you about the unlock process itself and about all the issues you may encounter as a result. After unlocking, the smartphone may lose its warranty, and future updates may not be compatible with the unlocked device.
In short, the process looks like this:
using the Android SDK to get a unique token for your Android smartphone;
export this token;
send it to HTCdev.com;
HTC generates a unique unlock key and sends it to you by email;
You can use this key to unlock the bootloader.
Android developers and enthusiasts should not have problems with unlocking, especially considering HTC’s detailed manual, but extra caution won't hurt. Beginners in the development of Android really should think: although HTC has eased the whole process, it can still lead to unpleasant consequences if you are not careful.
