Once we have already talked about the new ABBYY Lingvo x5 features in this blog. Then it was the translator's point of view, but today we want to elaborate on one of the new features implemented in the latest version of our dictionaries in more detail - translation by hover. We even made a special video about her:
So now Lingvo translates words from any text on the screen, even if it is not text for the operating system itself. In other words, our electronic dictionary has learned to translate words from pictures, videos, and also interface elements — buttons, captions, and window names. For this, our Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology is used, which “sees” the text and then recognizes it.
In fact, in addition to the obvious advantage that users received - translation of words from different graphics, they also lost a serious headache. Thanks to the recognition function in the new version of ABBYY Lingvo x5, the hover translation works in all browsers and will not stop working when the next update is released! And not only in browsers. If you regularly use programs for working with PDF-documents or read books in djvu format - everything will also be translated into them. Function, you see, useful. We have it was the first priority.
In addition, special dictionaries appeared in translation for guidance, in which translations are sorted by frequency of use. Thus, when you try to get a transfer on guidance, you will be shown the most common translation, which in most cases will be correct. If desired, a special dictionary can be easily disabled in the settings ( Tools-> Options menu, the tab "Translate words from text"). ')
And one more improvement: the Lingvo x5 pop-up translation perceives not only individual words, but also whole phrases:
This function can slow down the pop-up translation somewhat, so it is made disconnected: just uncheck the settings. And if necessary, you can always turn it on.
