NEC said its engineers had developed the world's first fully automatic system for border checkpoints. It uses NeoFace, a biometric facial recognition technology that is so sensitive that it can identify a person’s personality even through the windows of a car.
This system is already being used at the border of Hong Kong and the Chinese province of Shenzhen in order to increase the speed and efficiency of the Hong Kong Immigration Department (Hong Kong Immigration Department). First of all, the system "reads" the license plate of the car, and then scans the driver's face and checks the picture with the driver's licenses in the database.
