Anonymous hacked the site of the railway company BART

On Sunday, the Anonymous team of hackers attacked the website of the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit system) company, which organizes suburban rail service in San Francisco. As a result of hacking, contact information about hundreds of users of the site has been made publicly available. The hackers performed this action in response to the disconnection of the BART company’s cellular communications at several stations for a period of three hours.

Previously, hackers of the Anonymous group warned that they would disable the www.bart.gov site at noon for six hours - twice as long as the disconnection time of the telephone.

Meanwhile, the names, addresses, phone numbers and mail accounts of myBART users were in open access. Interestingly, hacktivists apologized to the citizens whose data they published. In their opinion, affected people should contact BART and ask why its employees did not ensure the confidentiality of their personal data.

Jim Allison, a BART spokesman, did not comment on the incident, citing lack of time to analyze the situation. Meanwhile, he assured that the BART security service is doing everything in its power to ensure the protection of company data.

Recall that on July 3, a BART security officer shot a certain Charles Hill, who according to a guard attacked him with a knife. July 11 was followed by a protest action, during which demonstrators blocked the metro station Civic Center at rush hour. Last Thursday, the action was to be repeated, but in order to make it impossible for the protesters to coordinate their actions, the BART management disconnected cellular communication at four stations, thereby preventing traffic collapse. It is this act that caused the discontent of anonymous hackers, who traditionally oppose censorship of information and restrictions on freedom of speech.
