On August 5th, we completed our second study in the Moscow metro. This time the coverage of the “Big Three” (2g / 3g) was fixed at the stations and spans.
About the study
The study was conducted in 3 stages:
')
Stage 1
We traveled every subway line 3 times, each time with a new subscriber terminal. The iPhone 4, HTC Sensation, and BandLuxe C330 USB modem were used. Based on the testimony of these terminals, we fixed coverage at stations and spans.
Stage 2
As a result of such detours, 2 coverage maps were compiled for each operator - one 2g, the other 3g. We sent these preliminary conclusions to the press services of the operators, with the question of how much they reflect reality. The operators responded by providing about 10 edits, most of which were rejected, because there were actually no 2g or 3g in the stated places. (Later it turned out that there were technical works).
Stage 3
August 4-5, was the final detour of the metro. Based on the collected data, we compiled the following comparative table:
results

and comparative graph

We do not undertake to comment on the results in any way, and we don’t want a holivar (we will leave it to people in the comments). We can only say that the operators agreed with the results of the study with reservations.
Finally, based on the study, we launched
an interactive coverage map .
