Google will buy Motorola Mobility for 12.5 billion dollars

Google and Motorola Mobility entered into an agreement according to which the search giant will acquire the former mobile branch of Motorola at $ 40 per share, that is, for about $ 12.5 billion.

Announcing the deal on Google’s official blog, CEO Larry Page noted the phenomenal success of the Android operating system: more than 150 million Android devices were activated worldwide, and more than 550,000 devices are activated every day. Page said Google wants to “overload the Android ecosystem,” and that Motorola is the best company that can help do this.

In 2007, Motorola was one of the founders of the Open Handset Alliance, which is working to make Android "the first truly open and comprehensive mobile platform." In 2008, Motorola made a bet on Android as the only operating system for all its smartphones.

Among other things, the acquisition of Motorola will strengthen the patent portfolio of Google, which will allow it to better compete with Microsoft, Apple and other companies.
